Why we need your help
SLaM provides the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK. We also provide substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.
We have about 4,800 staff serving a local population of 1.1 million people. We run more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services. We provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and we treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Croydon.
Donations help us to achieve this by:
- Giving people with mental health issues a relaxing space to socialise and connect. The Dragon Café runs creative activities and offers online support where people can share their experiences.
- Raising self-esteem through drama and trapeze. The Moving Forward project’s workshops build confidence and motivation and help people get back into employment.
- Providing mental health learning and events at the new ORTUS Centre. The centre runs workshops and conferences on mental health and focuses on recruiting service users who have experience of mental health issues.
- Building a new neuroscience institute to help researchers find treatments for disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
All gifts, including legacies, fund projects like this that work towards improving life for people with mental health issues.
It means we can go above and beyond in the care we provide every day.
